Tom Oliverson, MD

Dr. Tom Oliverson represents Texas’s 130th State House District in northwest Harris County, including the communities of Tomball, Cypress, Waller, and Hockley.  Dr. Oliverson serves as the Chair of the House Committee on Insurance, and also serves on the Public Health and House Administration committees.  He is the Vice Chair of the Texas House Republican Caucus and is a member of the Texas Conservative Coalition.  Nationally, he is the National Legislative Chair for the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, and he serves on the Health Care Policy Task Force for ALEC, the Executive Committee for the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) and is the Chair of the Worker’s Compensation Committee.  He has been chosen by his Republican colleagues as “Best Freshman Legislator, and has also been named to Texas Monthly’s “10 Best Legislators List”

In his professional career, Dr. Oliverson is a managing partner and practicing anesthesiologist in US Anesthesia Partners, the largest anesthesia group in Texas with over 1100 anesthesia providers.  A tireless advocate for patients and their safety, Dr. Oliverson is recognized as an expert in office-based anesthesia and consults with doctors and dentists throughout the state in order to make office surgery safer for patients.

A grateful Christian, Dr. Oliverson accepted Christ as his Lord in February of 1990, and since that time, has walked many hills and valleys with his Lord.  He has been a choir member, children’s Sunday school teacher, a lay youth leader, a youth Sunday school teacher, a small group/Bible study leader, and most recently, a Deacon.  Dr. Oliverson and his wife Jennifer, a teacher, are active members of Second Baptist Church-Cypress Campus in Houston and live in Cypress where they raise their three children.

Rep. Tom Oliverson, MD, a member of the Texas House of Representatives and Chairman of the Texas House Insurance Committee will share his insights as a physician member of the Texas State legislature. Dr. Oliverson will discuss some of his lessons learned about the unique nature of the political process that impacts how healthcare legislation and regulations are adopted at the state level. Dr. Oliverson will discuss the key strategies and actions that emergency medicine providers, and those who support the specialty of emergency medicine, can utilize to be more effective in their advocacy on behalf of our patients, our providers, and our practices.
