Dr. Powell is a 1990 graduate from Grand Valley State University and a 1996 graduate from Michigan State University – College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in EM at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit and served as chief resident his final year. Since joining ECS in 2000, Dr. Powell has had roles in leadership, reimbursement, and advocacy. Currently, he is the President of Medical Management Specialists, a full cycle RCM company wholly owned by ECS. He is also a member of the ECS Executive Committee and Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management and Advocacy. Dr. Powell holds board seats with Answer Health Physician Organization (AHPO) and the Emergency Department Practice Management Association (EDPMA). His roles in advocacy have expanded to service on several EDPMA committees, including the Federal Health Policy Comm. (FHPC), State Regulatory Insurance Comm. (SRIC), Surprise Billing Advisory Comm., and the Finance Comm. Dr. Powell also serves on the Executive Committee and is the Chair Elect of EDPMA. His current work with ACEP includes Reimbursement Comm. Work Group 2. Outside of work, Dr. Powell enjoys good food, good wine and good sport.
